Wanda Marie Mitchell's Obituary
Today, we share in the home-going of our beloved mother, Wanda Marie Mitchell. Wanda was born on September 21, 1961 in Detroit, Michigan to the proud parents of Ida Mae Mitchell and John McKinley Mitchell. Wanda was the third eldest of six children and she was often considered the backbone of the family.
In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, listening to music, watching black cinema films, and especially spending quality time with her two granddaughters. Wanda was a loving foster mother, aunt, sister, and friend to many. Even in her illness, she always had a kind word or smile to help make someone feel special.
Wanda received her education in the Detroit Public School System. Upon graduation, she attended cosmetology school. Before her paralysis, she worked as a beautician for nearly nine years and had aspirations of opening her own salon.
Wanda joined the Church of God of Detroit where she confessed Christ as her personal Savior and remained an active member for over two decades. She enjoyed singing in the choir and engaging with the youth. Her illness was diagnosed in late 2014, and even during this time she maintained her upbeat personality, regardless of the condition of her health. She was truly a joy and a blessing to be around.
Wanda Marie Mitchell departed this life in the late hours of November 11, 2015 and leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, two daughters; Joselyn Lenice-Ieisha Mitchell and Krystal Rose Davis-Dunn, one son; Kurtis Roosevelt Davis; two sisters; April Regina Mitchell and Lenecia Tanya Mitchell, two brothers; Marion Andre Mitchell and Vance Daniel Mitchell, two granddaughters; Eden Marie Dunn and Journey Rose Mitchell and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and neighbors. Her sister Pamela Edora Mitchell preceded her in death.
Wanda was a living example of how humor, generosity, and sincerity of heart can leave a legacy of joy, kindness and loving memories to all who knew her.
