Rev. Walter Bass' Obituary
Walter Bass was born April 17, 1934 to the union of Tom and Warree Bass in Chicago, Illinois. He was the second eldest of eight children (four brothers preceded him in death). Walter attended the Chicago Public School System and went on to proudly serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. In 1966 Walter accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, shortly thereafter; he relocated to Detroit, Michigan. Under the leadership of Pastor Benjamin F. Reid, he became the beloved and well-respected youth minister of the Southwestern Church of God. Reverend Walter Bass was also called to pastor the Boynton Street Church of God (Meadville, Pennsylvania); Sumpter Community Church of God (Belleville, Michigan) and Zion Church of God (Detroit, Michigan). Reverend Walter Bass made his transition Saturday, March 23, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Bass. He leaves to cherish his memory, four daughters; Sandra Kay, Genita, Marguerita (Joseph) and Damita (Rubin), nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, three sisters; Arnita (Lawrence), Juanita (Herman) and Ardelia (William), and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
