Velma Jean Robinson's Obituary
Velma Jean Watts Robinson was born December 10, 1940, in Brandon, MS. The daughter of Elbert Watts and Lula Mae (Watts) Brown. Both parents preceded her in death.
Velma professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Brandon, Mississippi. After graduating from Brandon High School she relocated to Jackson, Michigan to live with her Aunt Nora, and later united in holy matrimony to Eddie Robinson who preceded her in death. She later married John Stewart who also preceded her in death.
Velma was a long-time member of Lily Missionary Baptist Church where she worked tirelessly for many years. At Lily Baptist, Velma was a faithful servant of the Lord and served in various ministries In her later years of life, Velma moved her membership to Greater Bibleway Temple.
Velma was a fabulous cook! Her food was loved by all, some of her signature dishes include her Dinner Rolls, Dressing, Turnip Greens, Yams, Chicken Tetrazzini and Apple Pies. Velma was sophisticated, graceful, and beautiful inside and out. Velma had a heart of gold and a smile that would light up a room. Whatever the need, Velma was there to help. Besides Velma’s culinary skills, she was also known for her impeccable dress and beautiful hats. No matter the occasion you would find Velma dressed from head to toe with her beautiful warm and loving smile and a beautifully designed hat.
Velma has always been a hard worker, often working two jobs to provide for her family and help others. After retirement Velma cared for and nurtured several children and eldery in the city of Jackson. Although stern, Velma conveyed the love of Christ in her interactions with others as only one could express who knows the heart and mind of Christ Jesus.
Velma Jean Watts Robinson departed this life on Thursday, April 23, 2020, She is preceded in death by her brother, John A. Watts and two sisters Elze (Watts) Tyson and Ovie (Watts) Miller.
Velma leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Theresa “Pam” (Anthony) Travis and Jannaa Pool, grandsons, Desmond Logan, Stedman Logan (Anisa), Gary Pool II and Jalen Pool, four great grandchildren, several God Children and bonus daughter Kim Harrell-Nichols (Michael). She also leaves behind her siblings: Ocie Watson, Elbert Leo Watts, Ruby Jean (John Henry) Walker, Christine (Al) Anderson, Eddie Brown, Jr., Robert Earl (Evelyn) Brown, Kenneth E. (Maggie) Brown, Tony C. (Brenda) Brown, and Barbara Ann (Allen) Matthews. Three aunts Betty Watts, Martha Watts and Nora (Truman) Williams a very special aunt, four uncles, William Watts, Bobby (BJ) Watts, Billy Thomas Watts, and Clinton (Dusty) Watts plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, parishioners, friends and neighbors.
