Valerie Delila Meeks' Obituary
Valerie (Val) was born on September 18, 1960 to Rudell and J.C. Meeks in Jackson, MI. She had an older brother and sister who were excited about her arrival and loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rudell Woolfolk, father, J.C. Meeks, and stepfather, Elmer Woolfolk, sister, Tuesda Caston, and brother-in-law, Sadock Truman, Sr.
Val was bright and well liked and had a promising future with anything that she chose, but was offered a job with Fisher Body at the age of 18 years old and there she stayed until she retired in 2009. Val was always laughing, joking and easily the life of the event when she entered a room. She loved people! When asked what her hobby was, she would let everyone know that “she loved the elderly and seniors.” She could readily be found taking them to the store, doctor’s appointments, and church. Val loved her family and church where she served as the president of the Usher Board for many years until her health no longer allowed her to serve in that capacity. Valerie loved having fun, and she would do whatever it took to lighten people’s burden by making them laugh.
She leaves in her memory siblings Lee & Sharon Joplin, Rod & Devera Hayes, Bruce & Sonya Meeks, Larry Caston, Tanya & Bryan Lee. She had many nieces and nephews who will miss her: Charmaine, Eugene, Sadock Jr., Robert, Melissa, Jameelah, Maliya, Karanja, Sameerah, Angelina, Bruce Jr., Joi, Ladon, Annie, Montrese, Brandon, Brandi, Jahadi (special nephew and God-son) and Kennedy. Many Great-nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Val also leaves her significant-other, John Douglas of 30 years. She will be greatly missed, her smiling face and jolly manner – Valerie enjoy your new home singing and laughing with your mother and sister.
