Sylvester Erin Nelson's Obituary
Sylvester was born November 11, 1957; he was the first of six children to Charney “Doc” Nelson and Ola Nelson in Autaugaville, Alabama. He and his family relocated to Detroit, Michigan in 1969 to pursue the American dream. Sylvester was educated in the Detroit Public School system graduating from Finney High School. He later received his Bachelor of Arts from Indiana State University. He began his work career at McDonald’s, becoming a manager at 16 and continued on to become Regional Manager before joining the Southland Corporation and later a Housing Inspector for the City of South Bend, Indiana. After retirement he returned to Detroit to be near his family. Sylvester was raised in the Church and Joined the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an active member until his illness prevented his attendance. Sylvester loved sports, good food and his family. Sylvester’s journey ended on Sunday, August 11, 2019. Left to mourn his passing is his loving and devoted mother, Ola Nelson, three sisters: Ella Nelson of Detroit, MI, Michelle Nelson of Silver Springs, MD, and Yolanda Nelson of Southfield, MI; two brothers: Terry Nelson, Sr. of Silver Springs, MD and Clyde Nelson of Harper Woods, MI. Special care givers and family friends, neighbor Sandra Gardner, cousin Panes Sullen, and aunt Johnnie (Ronald) Murphy as well as a hosts of cousins, nephews, friends, and one great niece Eyonnia Nelson.
