Sarah C. Leatherwood's Obituary
Sarah Bell Leatherwood, affectionately known as “Doll”, was born to the late Henrietta and Willie Collins on March 12, 1938 in Uniontown, Alabama. She grew up in Uniontown, Alabama, and attended Perry County Schools. Sarah worked at New Light Nursing Home for over 25 years as a supervisor. She confessed her life to Christ at an early age. Sarah was united in holy matrimony to the late George Washington and to this union one son was born who was George Washington Jr. who perceived her in death. Sarah found love again with Andy Leatherwood in 1959 and they were united holy matrimony. To this union, they gained a daughter, Angel Collins. After Sarah and Andy moved to Detroit in 1966, they joined Peace and Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Author J. Dozier Jr. Sarah later joined the Mothers’ Board under the leadership of the late Rev. Herbert B. Robinson Jr and continued as on the Mothers’ Board under the current leadership of Pastor Mark. C. Holloway until her transition. On Sunday, April 21, 2019, she entered into eternal rest with the Lord, peacefully, at St. John Hospital. Sarah was preceded in death by her siblings Geraldine, Willie Jr., Mattie, Dell, Aurelia, and Bessie. Sarah leaves to cherish her memories, one devoted daughter, Angel Collins of Detroit, Michigan; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Washington of Detroit, Michigan; three siblings: Henrietta Collins of Uniontown, Alabama, Joseph (Diana) Collins of Detroit, Michigan, and Catherine (Don) Walton of Uniontown, Alabama; two brother in laws William Black of Detroit, Michigan and Levi (Joann) Bryant of Detroit, Michigan; five grandchildren: George Harper, who proceeded her in death, Tamera Washington of Detroit, Michigan, Sierra Miller of Detroit, Michigan, Ashley Collins of Clinton Township, Michigan, and Geordan Washington of Detroit, Michigan; four great-grandchildren: Deontra Harper of Detroit, Michigan, Tia Reaves of Detroit, Michigan, Ameir Harper of Detroit, Michigan, and Treonde Evans of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; two aunts Carrie Moore of Mobile, Alabama and Annie Johnson of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends
