He graduated from Jackson High School in 1983. He held may positions in the workforce, but what he loved the most was being a very anointed and skillful organist for the House of the Lord. He found his purpose as the Minister of Music at Oasis of Love Full Gospel Church for over 31 years.
Rex loved sports for he played a variety of them in his youth (football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, etc…) He was known as a great cook and a BBQ Grill Master. He also took joy as an auto mechanic. He would tackle neighborhood auto repair jobs big and small at a fair price.
Rex met the love of his life Denise Rene (Akines) Pryor, and they were married on May 31, 1996. During their union they raised two sons: Chaz Akines & Rex D. Pryor II.
Rex had a great love for his family. He cherished all of them. But he had a profound love and dedication to his father Walter T. Pryor. He was his ‘ride or die’, or as some people say, his ‘DAY ONE!’ In health, these two were nearly inseparable.
Rex was proceeded in death by his mother Roberta (Cawthon) Pryor.
He lives to cherish his memory, his wife of 28 years, Denise Rene (Akines) Pryor, His two children Chaz Aikens & Rex Pryor II. Grandchildren: LaZayvair Akines, DeAndre Akines, ZaCariah Akines, Major Akines, Chosen Akines, & Rex Pryor III. Father: Walter (Jackie) Pryor. Two Brothers: Walter (Rosalind) Pryor & T. And the Oasis of Love Full Gospel Church Band to which Rex remained dedicated. Special thanks to his devoted bassist and friend, JW Prather.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. II Timothy 4:7-8.
