Reginald Montgomery's Obituary
Reginald Erwin Montgomery was born on March 4, 1961 to the union of Emma L. Byrd and Johnny B. Montgomery. Both parents preceded him in death. He was the second of four children; Johnny, Lemuel and Aleecia. Of Deacon Montgomery’s three sons, Reginald mirrored him most in looks and certain personality traits.
Reginald was born in Wichita Falls Texas on the Sheppard Field Air Force Base. Upon moving to Detroit Michigan, he attended Guyton Elementary, Remus Robinson Middle and Southeastern High School. Reginald gave his life to the Lord as a young boy at the Eastside Church of God.
Reginald/Reggie/Reg had a fun-loving, charming personality and was seldom seen without a smile. He spent many hours working with his uncle Andrew and his brothers Lemuel and Johnny in the housing industry. He became skilled in mechanics, electrical, plumbing, and other housing trades. This ultimately led to his employment at Home Depot. Reg loved his job, and other employees and customers loved him. He received “Employee of the Month” award multiple times.
Reg’s hobbies were eating, roller skating, eating, dog training, eating and fishing. (Urban legend has it that Reg could cast his fishing line 100 yards out – the length of a football field???). He especially loved dogs. His Grandfather fondly called him “My Dog Boy.” Having worked for a dog training company, Reg became quite skilled in training dogs. He never met a dog he didn’t love and couldn’t train or defeat. He was once challenged by a friend who owned a vicious Pitbull, that if Reg could get close enough to this vicious dog to get it out of the yard, he could have it. Needless to say, Reg walked away as proud owner of a docile Pitbull on a leash.
Reginald departed this life on Christmas afternoon while preparing to go to his sister Aleecia’s house to do what he did best--eat up everything in sight. He leaves to cherish his memory, The Love of His Heart; Tameka Gortman; his stepmom; Joyce Montgomery, three daughters; Latoya Douglas, Tiffany Wright and Shantana Montgomery, three brothers; Johnny Montgomery (Shelley), Lemuel Montgomery, and Leroy Sallad, two sisters; Aleecia Montgomery and Melissa Sallad, nine grandchildren, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends who loved him.
