Michael Henry Hurd's Obituary
Michael Henry Hurd of Jackson, Michigan, born on May 15, 1952, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Michael is preceded in death by his parents Hytence and Jimmie L. Hurd, a brother Jimmie L. (Bugs), his daughter Nikki Hurd, and his grandson Ashton Parker.
Michael leaves two brothers Eugene (Beverly) and James L. (Sharon). He leaves behind, three children Michael Hurd, Jr., Aisha (Anthony) Parker, Shaun (Kristin) Doyle, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his dear friends Mike Holt, Alan Wade and Holly Jones, along with, a host of cousins, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends.
Michael attended Parkside High School, where he excelled by becoming all-state and captain in each sport (Football, Basketball and Track). While playing sports, he was also an academic scholar.
He attended Michigan State University on a football scholarship in 1970. He was an active participant on both the football and track team from 1971-1974. Michael, an Art Major, designed a new helmet logo for the Michigan State Spartan Football Team in 1973. The logo was used on the helmets during the 1973 football season. He received a Bachelor of Art Degree from the university in 1974 and a Masters in Business Administration from Strayer University in 2015. Michael was selected by the Minnesota Vikings during the 13th round of the NFL Draft in 1975.
Michael worked approximately 10 years in the Flint School System and performed other various jobs in the Michigan area before moving to the Atlanta, Georgia. There, he pursued many different vocations until he returned to Jackson Michigan in 2020.
Michael was an avid sports fan and loved watching old western movies. He will be sorely missed by many.
