Mamie D. Ross' Obituary
Mamie Dell Ross was born on March 22, 1933 to Albert and Willie Mae (Davis) Shaw of Henning, Tennessee. She was the third of nine children; preceded in death by her mother and father, two brothers, four sisters and one daughter (Annette).
Mamie professed her faith in Christ at an early age. After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University, she moved to Eau Claire, Michigan, where she met the love of her life, Johnnie Ross Sr., who she affectionately referred to as “Buster.”
Johnnie and Mamie were married in 1958 at the home of Rev. A.P. Williams in Jackson, Michigan, and became members of the Second Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson.
Mamie served on the Deaconess Board, on the Missionary Circle #1 and was a long-time member of the Chancel and Mass Choirs. Mamie also taught in the Baptist Training Union (B.T.U) and later became the director, where she served for 11 years. Mamie worked diligently as a Teacher’s Aide/Para-Professional for the Jackson Public School system and retired after 27 years of service.
An avid seamstress, Mamie leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 59 years, Johnnie Ross Sr.; sons, Johnny Ross Jr. and Jerry (Linnette) Ross and daughter Ann Lois Ross. She also leaves “her babies,” grandchildren; Steven Ross, Stephany (Richard) Gallon, Leesa Ross and Jordan Ross, along with sisters, Mildred Jean (Louis) Hudson, and Lillie Mae Harvell and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.Mamie also leaves to cherish her memory two very special friends, Richard and Wanda Holmes, and special daughter, Debra C. Ragland
