Lorine Sanders' Obituary
Lorine Sanders age 86 entered the gates of Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior on September 9, 2015, after a brief stay at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI.
Lorine was born September 26, 1928, in Jefferson County Alabama to the Late Mitchell and Mattie Lou (Wilson) Ward. Lorine accepted Christ at Ebenezer Baptist Church of Bell Sumter, Alabama and sang in the choir until moving to Albion, Michigan.
In 1954 Lorine Ward united in holy matrimony to the late Hollis Sanders Sr. in Angola, Indiana for thirty seven years. To this union six children were born and one child was adopted. Lorine joined Leggett Chapel AME Zion Church in Albion, Michigan. She served on the Christian Education Board, The Children Department and sang in the Temple Choir.
In 1990 Lorine joined Holy light Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of her son in law Pastor JC Oliver where she remained faithful and dedicated until her passing. She was the spiritual advisor on the Pastor Aide Committee and a member of the mother board. Lorine truly loved the Lord, her favorite saying was ("I talk with him daily").
Lorine was employed by the Malleable Iron Foundry, and later housekeeping, until her retirement.
Her passions were listening to gospel music, singing hymns, and reading her bible. She enjoyed cooking, planning holiday dinners, and family gatherings. Her favorite dish was banana pudding (which everyone loved). She was a hair dresser and her favorite color was blue.
Lorine loved children and was known as "Grandma" in the neighborhood to all the children at the bus stop. She would open up her garage door when it was raining and cold outside for the children while they waited for the bus, she also gave them breakfast snacks.
Lorine was also known as Grandma to the many children she babysat. She raised two of her grandchildren and adopted three, making a total of six. She enjoyed spending time with her children and all of her grands and great grands, she love them all very much she will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two children; Barbra Jean Jackson and Carolyn Yvonne Lindsey, grandchild; Sameiya Sanders, six sisters; Bessie Mae Johnson, Lela Mae Richardson, Carrie McCormick, Ollie Bell McCormick, Henrietta Hightower, Lutisha Gordon and three brothers; George, Mitchell and Aaron Ward.
Lorine is survived by five children; Nora (Rev. JC Oliver Sr.) of Albion, Michigan, Hollis (Jackie) Sanders Jr., of Jackson, Michigan, Wilda Faye (Napoleon) Spicer Jr., of Albion, Michigan, Joyce Sanders Johnson of Jackson, Michigan and Brenda (Ronnie) White of Albion, Michigan; twenty six grandchildren and forty five great-grandchildren, one god-daughter; Nicia Holmes, three brother- in- laws; Jitty Sanders of Arizona, Bo Sanders of New York, Lester Sanders of Alabama and sister-in-law Emma Jean Sanders of Alabama, five devoted nephews; Billy Sr., Carl, and Jeffery McCormick, Anthony Clemons, Rickey Richardson Jr, four devoted nieces; Darlene Andrews, Valerie Berry, Elvera Dixon, and Yolanda Williams, two cousins; Catherine Woods, and Jannie Cohen, special friends; Fannie Throgmartin, Melissa and Mattie Travis, Bill and Deborah Curry, and a host of nieces and nephews.
