Linda Lou Holmes' Obituary
On October 25, 1947, in Kankakee, IL, Linda Lou (Sloan) Holmes was born to Samuel and Norma Jessie Sloan. She was the oldest of six children. She grew up in Jackson, Michigan and loved being outdoors, gardening, and walking. Linda especially loved going to second-hand stores better known as the “Saint’s Store.” She had a gift and knack for finding anything you needed there.
She graduated from Parkside High School and went on to JCC to become a nurse. On October 26, 1969, Linda married Alee Holmes and to this union nine children were born.
Linda gave her life to Christ in 1969 and through salvation became a member of the Church of God congregation in Jackson, Michigan for over 50 years. She was kind-hearted and loved helping people. She became known as the church nurse, supporting Pastor Frank Hampton, Jr., and the saints through her medical knowledge and faith.
On October 11, 2023, Sis. Linda Holmes transitioned away from this life in the early hours of the morning. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Norma Jessie, her siblings Traci and Michael Sloan. Linda leaves to cherish her memory husband Alee; her children, Melendi (Gamechu) Dakebo, Marius Holmes, Leland (Olivia) Holmes, Linley Holmes, Valerie Holmes, Valaina Holmes, Corwin Holmes, Cameron Holmes, and Aleia Holmes. Her siblings, Vicki (Howard) Wade, Anthony Sloan, Steve (Teresa) Sloan, a special cousin Gail Butler, four sister- in laws: Mary-Catherine, Beverly, Pamela, and Sharron. Grandchildren Aliyah, Landon, Dalaun, Diego, Alexis, Khalid, Davion, Kimora and one great-grandchild Payton. A host of nieces and nephews. Along with her bonus children the Hamptons as well as a host of church family and special family friends, Phyllis Pearson, Kastella Walker, Bettie Burke, Davetta Hunt, Deanna Hunt, Robin Horton, and Brenda Sanders.
