Lena Faye Long's Obituary
Lena Faye (Ross) Long of Jackson, Michigan was born on October 15, 1943 in Vienna, Illinois to the late Frank and Doris (Betts) Ross. Lena and her family moved to Jackson, Michigan in the mid 40’s where she attended Jackson Public Schools and was a faithful member of the Community African Episcopal Church under the leadership of the late Pastor L.J. Williams for many years. Lena enjoyed singing trio with her two sisters Shirley and Delores.
She met and married the late George William Robinson to this union was born 4 children. She met and married the late Willie Edwards to this union was born 1 son. Lena found herself being a single mother of 5.
She began her employment with the Head Start Program. She worked at several factories, Kelsey Hayes, ITT Hancock, Wyman Gordons and Mechanical Products. She also worked several years with Jackson Medical Care Facility, she loved to care for her family when they needed help.
Lena met and married the late Arthur Artis, they attended Greater Love Tabernacle Church under the leadership of her sister, Pastor Delores Wilbon, later in life she fellowshipped with Dominion Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Alfonso J. Butler, where she was baptized on April 10, 2005.
Lena was a jack of all trades, she was taught by her father at a very young age how to change a tire and oil change. She was an avid gardener who loved her flowers and yard, she was also an immaculate house keeper, who enjoyed cooking and baking from scratch. She enjoyed listening to her gospel music, watching tennis, world news and the QVC channel. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lena was married to the love of her life the late William (Clint) Jodell Long. She loved the Lord and she knew he loved her and her faith. “Never wavered even in her sickness”. Romans 4:20- Romans 5-1.
Lena was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday October 9, 2022 at 11:02 a.m. with her family by her side. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy 4:7. Lena was preceded in death by her husband; William (Clint) Jodell Long, parents; Frank and Doris Ross, her mother-in-law; Loryia Smith, father-in-law; Willie Ludell Ross, grandparents; Henry and Bessie Betts, Lena (GG) Mathis, nephew; LaMont Patterson, sister-in-law; Beverly Cooper, and stepson; Michael Pierre.
Lena is survived by her two daughters; Terri (James) Watson and Tina Glenn both of Jackson, Michigan, three sons; Todd Robinson of Battle Creek, Michigan, Eric Robinson and Rodney (Kimberley) Edwards all of Jackson, Michigan, three stepsons; Michael Long, Jodell Long and William Long, nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, two sisters; Shirley (Mark) Davenport of Jackson, Michigan, and Delores (Alvin) Wilbon of Louin, Mississippi, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, special niece; Dana White, devoted daughter in law; Kimberley Edwards and son; Rodney Edwards. “Honor thy father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you”.
