Jowel Lee Coats' Obituary
Mr. Jowel Lee Coats, affectionately known as “Joe” was born February
27, 1960, in Albion, Michigan to the late L. C. (Clear Water) Coats and
the late Willie Lee Coats in Albion, Michigan. He was the fourth of ten
children born to this union.
Jowel experienced success in completing his formal educational
training in the Albion Public School system. Joe served in the Armed
service, later returning to start his life in Jackson, MI. He was blessed
to have employment opportunities with Foote Hospital of Jackson, MI,
as well as the manufacturing industry. Jowel loved fishing, gardening,
his dogs, old-school R&B, and gospel music. He adored his sisters, and
most of all loved spending time with his family.
On Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 5:00 pm God called Jowel’s name and
he answered as he closed his eyes in departure from earth to our
heavenly Father. He leaves to cherish his precious memory six
children; Three sons, Farad Churchill of Clementon, New Jersey, Adam
(Woodline ) ”Coats” Reese of Houston, Texas, and Jowel L. Coats, II of
Jackson, Michigan; Three Daughters Shameka Brewer of Toledo, Ohio,
Serina Lemay of Stockbridge, Michigan, and Jasmine Coats of Jackson,
Michigan, one daughter-in-love, Nikay Stock of Jackson, Michigan;
Eight grandchildren: Jaylan Coats, Adam Coats, Aza Reese, Alexcia
Reese, Lela Ackerman, Eyan May, Devonce Brewer, Derrick Brewer, Jr.,
and one great-granddaughter Za’niah Brewer; Six sisters; Willy (Eric)
Baldwin of Jackson, Michigan, Maggie Coats of Albion, Michigan,
Carolyn Brewer (Lonnie) of Albion, Michigan, April Porter of Albion,
Michigan; Ruby Coats of Albion, Michigan, and Luevina (Tyree) of
Battle Creek, Michigan; Four aunts: Gloria Coats of Miami, Florida, Dr.
Janice Coats-Hardy of Albany, Ga, , Mary Alice Davis of Jackson,
Michigan, and Janet Squaire of Albion, Michigan; two uncles; Thomas
Coats of Jacksonville, Florida, Arnold Coats of Miami, Florida, a host of
nieces and nephews, close cousins and special friends.
Jowel was preceded in death, by his father, L. C. Coats, mother, Willie
Lee Coats one daughter Lameka Reese, one brother Leonard Charles
Coats, two sisters, Crystal Williams of Florida., Bonny Coats Jordan of
Michigan, grandparents, nephew, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
