Josie Estella Clay's Obituary
Josie Clay was born Josie Estella Hughes on March 20, 1920 in Trenton, Tennessee. Josie was the second of four daughters born to Porter Hughes and Charlotte CobbHughes, formerly of Alabama.
Josie moved from Obion County Tennessee to Jackson, Michigan in 1926, with her family. Josie graduated from Jackson High School. Josie met James Isom Clay of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and then they married in June of 1954. From their first home on Biddle Street on Jackson, Michigan’s Southside, James and Josie Clay moved into the home that James Clay built for the couple in the early 1960s on Hill Street, on the North side of Jackson, Michigan and they both lived out the rest of their days there according to their plan. Josie retired as an employee of Goodyear in Jackson, Michigan.
Josie Clay left this life at the age of 95 on July 20, 2015. Proceeding Josie in her death was her husband; James, parents; Porter and Charlotte, sisters; Sallie, Mary Sue, and Artelia, and stepson; James.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two stepdaughters; Loretta Goodloe of Ypsilanti and Delora (Kevin) Mitchell of Lansing, six nieces and six nephews, a brother-in-law; Bob Dungey, a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a special family the Montgomery’s. Josie loving and generous nature, her sharp wit, and her feisty charm will be missed.
