Today is a very difficult day for us. When we first had the distinct pleasure of meeting Johnny B. Montgomery, we came to Detroit for Willie Montgomery, Jr. wedding. His Cousin Brenda and I did know anyone, but travel there by plane for the wedding. We knew we had family there however we had never met them before. This was over thirty plus years ago. We met most of the family at the wedding. We travel to Detroit the morning of the wedding and was extremely tired. Aunt Aquilla and Uncle Albert sent their Lincoln to pick us up, Johnny was the driver. We began to bond from that very moment.
Johnny and I was up most of the night talking. My spouse was the actual cousin to the Montgomery family, but somehow everybody thought I was and they made me feel as if I was the blood relative. It started with Aunt Aquilla and Uncle Albert and it cascaded through the entire Montgomery family in Detroit. To this day that relationship still exist. The relationship evolved in many trips to Detroit and them coming to Memphis also. If I stay at Johnny house, we were up all night, If I stayed at Florine and Andy, I would only get a few hours sleep. There cousin Brenda(my spouse) always manage to get her rest while we stay up talking. Johnny was such an inspiring person to be in the presence of your company. His mother stolen my heart the first time I met her, and so did he and the rest of the family. I never knew the blood of the Montgomery did not run through my veins, if I based it on the manner in which they treated me each and every time I was in their presents or they were in mines.... We love you Johnny B. Montgomery, Rest Easy in the Arms of the Almighty Architect. You earned you CROWN, Rest Now!!!
