Henry Bennett Gamble's Obituary
Henry Bennett Gamble was born April 2, 1942 in Albion, Michigan to Harry and Mary Lee (Reed) Gamble. Henry departed this life on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, Michigan surrounded by his loving wife, daughter and granddaughter.
Henry accepted Christ at a young age. He graduated on June 9, 1960 from Washington Gardner High School. Henry was a terrific athlete and well known as an awesome football player. He was loved by many. Henry met and married the love of his life Irene “Rene” (Evans) Gamble on October 18, 1960.
Henry was affectionately known by many as “Poppa”, Mr. Gamble, Uncle Henry, Black Santa Claus, Granddad and Papa. He was a very sharp dresser, but still loved being a great handyman fixing everything from cars to houses. Henry enjoyed dancing, hunting and vacationing with family and gardening.
He worked at Corning Glass from 1960-1962. Also, from 1962 he was employed as a Foreman at Brooks foundry until his retirement in 1988. Henry was the Chief Operator of Facilities for Irene’s Superior Unisex Salon in Albion, Michigan from 1990-2018.
Henry was a very faithful member of Leggett Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. He was the past president of the Trustee Board for Leggett Chapel. He loved being a jack of all trades and performed all types of maintenance work for people whether it was inside or outside. Henry was a member of Joe Louis Castle 17 Int’l Mason Albion, Michigan since March 5,1964.
Henry was preceded in death by his father; Harry Gamble, mother; Mary Lee Gamble, two brothers; George Lee Gamble and Harry Runis Gamble and two sisters; Youlande Drucilla (Gamble) Smith and Mary Elizabeth (Gamble) Welch.
Henry leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted and loving wife; Irene “Rene” Gamble of 57 years, son; Eric T. Gamble of Battle Creek, Michigan, daughter; Phyllis Y. Gamble of Albion, Michigan and son, Henry Dion (Monica) Rowe-Gamble of Fresno, California, granddaughters; Caresha K. Kendrick and LaVishia McDonald of Albion, Michigan, Precious Griggs, Dionsjana Fuller and Kyla Gutierrez of Fresno, California, and Teayanna Griggs of Las Vegas, Nevada, grandsons; Anthony Rowe of Fresno, California, and Dion Newton of San Diego, California, his sister; Lurener Harris, goddaughters; Tina (Patterson) Blair of Albion, Michigan and LaSonia Robbins of Macomb, Michigan; thirteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. four brother-in-Laws and five sister-in Laws.
