Geraldine Slaughter's Obituary
Geraldine Slaughter was born to Charlie and Hattie Mae Cox in Wilson, North Carolina both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband; Marvin H. Slaughter, her brother; Herbert Cox, sister; Mary Joyce Kelley, sons; Ricky and Greg Carroll, and her daughter; Denise Carroll. Geraldine departed this life on Sunday, May 9th, 2021.
She was known by many for her ability to cook up great meals and desserts, her love and devotion to her family, and her willingness to whoop anyone in a game of marbles. Geraldine was indeed the life of the party. Geraldine left North Carolina and made her way out west to San Diego, California where she met long lasting friends and made bonds that were cherished through her final breath. Geraldine, and her four children; Ricky, Greg, Denise, and Teresa Carroll, made California their home from San Diego to Long Beach, to the Bay Area where they would attend school, establish careers, and have their own families as well.
Geraldine retired from Mercy Hospital after 18 years as a patient advisor. It was then that her grandma superpowers were on full display. If you were to ask her grandchildren about Geraldine, they would use words like, “foundation”, “she’s the reason I made it”, “it doesn’t get any better than Big Momma”. Her children loved her; her grandchildren adore her, and her siblings admired her. Geraldine is survived by her eldest sisters; Annie Cox Cagle of Maryland, Louise Murray of Jackson, Michigan, and her daughter; Teresa Carroll of California. Geraldine’s legacy lives on through Keisha, Gerald, Ricky, Drew, Kameron, Jonathan, Darniesha, Darcea, Lil Sabrina, and Brianna who will continue to love on each other, remain connected as one, and claim victory over all the things that can tear families apart. This family is as rock solid as they come because Geraldine did not tolerate any mess.
Geraldine was an amazing wife, a mother that put her children first, and a grandmother and great grandmother that went an extra mile and a half for her babies. Geraldine was loyal and will be missed by her family and friends. Special recognition to Geraldine’s loyal and dedicated friends from San Diego, to North Carolina, Jackson Michigan and everywhere in between. Laura Parra and family, Regina Malveaux, Janet Stewart, Marta Nolan & family, LeRoy Wiggers, Ms. Mary, Matt Long, Arthur Epps, Richard & Luciana Neuinfelt, Gloria Bullock & family, and the Jackson Church of God family.
Finally, family and friends let your tears flow, let your memories of me run freely
