Ethel Mae Clark's Obituary
“Queen” Ethel Mae (Hurd) Clark, was born December 19, 1936 in Bessemer, Alabama, to Clinton Hurd Sr., and Virgalee (McNish) Hurd. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clinton Jr, Jimmie, Johnny and Charley, Virgil and Albert Hurd, her sisters Jacquelyn Ann Hurd, Ola Ruth (Hurd) Garrison and Oree Virginia (Hurd) Bradshaw and Mary Ellen (Hurd) Dunlap.
Affectionately known as “Bunsey” by her peers, “Grandma” by her grandchildren, “Mother” by her daughters, “Ma” or ‘Momma” by her son, “Ms. Ethel” by her co-workers, and when she looked into the mirror “Queen Ethel”, made her transition to her heavenly home on July 29, 2023.
She accepted Christ at a young age, attending the First Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Lawrence C. Patrick and later in life joined Burning Bush Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Don W. Shelby Jr., and Pastor Antoine Bracey.
Ethel graduated from Jackson High School. During her school years she participated in the high school Orchestra (playing a Violin for 13 years) and was also a member of the Ginny Lind Choir. She graduated from Jackson Community College where she obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree in 1970. Ethel “diligently” worked as an LPN in various capacities until the age of 72, she was a “nurse extraordinaire”.
She loved to travel and was very passionate about anything she became a part of or involved in. She was very meticulous about how things should be done, they had to be in perfect order. If it wasn’t done correctly, she wanted no part of it! This is the attitude she took with her when she became a part of ElKarnek Court #60, Daughters of Isis PHA in 1985. During her tenure, she occupied the position of Recordress for eleven years. She later became their Illustrious Commandress, as well as the Deputy of the Oasis of Muskegon, Michigan.
She is survived by her children, Sheryl (Keith) McDonald, A. Christine “Chrissy” (Kenneth) Robinson, and James (Bridgette) Perry; sisters Florence Paschall and Norma (Thomas) Clemons. Several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
