Enoch Throckmorton, Sr.'s Obituary
Enoch Throckmorton Sr. was born on March 2, 1931, in Oxford, North Carolina. He was the 5th of 11 children born to the union of the late Ernest and Hattie Satterwhite Throckmorton. Seven of his siblings preceded him in death. Enoch was educated in the Joe Toler school system. After graduating in 1951, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served until he was honorably discharged. He enrolled in Barber College; upon completion, he married Ernestine Young in 1956. Born to this union were three children: Enoch Throckmorton Jr., Gloria Samuels-Jackson, and Elaine Throckmorton. In 1966, Enoch moved his family from Chicago, Illinois to Ecorse, Michigan and started his business as a barber. He was a mentor and role model to the community. His entrepreneurial spirit and heart for service made him a visionary leader. Aside from being a barber, Enoch enjoyed gardening, baking, fishing, and teaching Sunday school. His passion for encouraging others drove him to minister in the convalescent home for 52 years. “I cannot be idle, for Jesus says, ‘Go and work in my harvest today; and then at the evening, when labor is done, whatever is right I will pay.’” - I Cannot Be Idle | William J. Henry He leaves to cherish his beloved wife of 62 years, their 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
