Eddie Brister's Obituary
A Time to be born We will forever remember that hot summer night in West Mississippi when our parents Silas Zay and Gracie Viola Brister brought home a new bundle of joy- our second youngest brother Eddie Mitchell Brister born July 3, 1949. Eddie Brister was the seventh child of nine children and truly enjoyed his time with his siblings Harvey, Ola, Helen, Elmira, James, Bertha, Susan, and Raymond. Our Family moved to Detroit Michigan, great times getting adjusted to city life in our new residence on Townsend Street. Eddie was educated in the Detroit Public School system which included Barbour Junior High, and Eastern High School, where he was an exceptional football player. Eddie played various positions: running back, half back and punt returner. He was also a part of the wrestling, baseball, and weight lifting team. We the Brister Family always attended Church services. Jos. Campau Avenue Church of God was our Church home where Rev Raymond S. Jackson was our pastor. We were at church every Sunday Morning, Sunday Evening, Wednesday Night and Friday Night. During these early days Eddie came into relationship with Jesus Christ. Throughout his life, Eddie has held various employments- including working for the City of Detroit. In addition to that, he was a very successful entrepreneur enjoying real-estate investments and rehabbing properties. His love for real-estate was proven by the smiles he put on the faces of others when turning over the keys to their new home. A Time to Love Eddie was ever so humorous, he was known by many for his ability to make you laugh. For example — his Chicago Bristol stories, his infamous rhymes, and ability to turn up the party like no other. He was also someone who had a sharp memory. Eddie was the type of person who could make you feel as though you've known him for years. He really had a way of making others feel comfortable opening up to him. His love for his children (Chevon Holt & Anthony Dobbins), grandchildren (Niah & Malcolm Islam), companion of 20 years (affectionately known as Ms. Margaret), siblings, parents, nieces and nephews and community at large will never be forgotten. A Time to Die November 14, 2018 will forever live in our hearts, it was the day God smiled and called our father, grandfather, companion, brother, and uncle and friend home. Though his physical body is gone, he will forever live in our hearts: Chevon, Anthony, Niah, Malcolm, Ms. Margaret, Harvey, Helen, Elmira, & Bertha, nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends
