Dorothy M. McMullen's Obituary
DOROTHY M. BOLER was born on September 2, 1925 in Stratton, Mississippi to Wilmon and Emma Boler. She was the oldest of eight children; James, Myrtis, Charcy, Mary Helen, Jesse, Dora and Faye. She was educated in the Jackson Public School systems, and Poro Beauty School in Detroit, Michigan. On September 10, 1946, she married Velish McMullen. To this union, three children were born; Vincent, Joyce and Emily. The family lived for a short time in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania then moved to Detroit, Michigan. The family would later move to Ecorse, Michigan in 1950. Velish and Dorothy were married for 62 years until his death in 2008. DOROTHY was a member of First Baptist Church in Ecorse and later joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Barlow. She was an active member, serving as president of the Nurses' Guild along with other church ministries. Dorothy was also treasurer of Ecorse's NAACP for many years where her leadership proved to be invaluable. As a savvy business woman, Dorothy opened her own beauty salon, Dorothy’s Beaute’ Care in 1960. She was a loving mother always making sure her children were involved in church, school and the community. Lovingly known as "Nanny "she leaves to cherish her memories her children, Vincent( Kathy), Joyce (Tommie) and Emily (Asa, deceased), sisters Myrtis (Floyd), Charcy (Thomas), Mary Helen, Dora (Beray), Faye (George), brothers Jesse and James (deceased). Twelve grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters, several devoted friends, Kim, Margie, Charles and Monica along with a host of family and friends.
