Dolores Delrio Hinton's Obituary
Dolores Delrio Hinton was born March 31, 1936 in Lake Charles,
Louisiana, to the late Bennie and Juanita Robertson. She was raised in DeRidder,
Louisiana, where she attended secondary school. Dolores’s brother, Benjamin,
and her sister Jerridine; whom she nicknamed Mickey because of her fondness
of Mickey Mouse, both preceded her in death. She enjoyed playing softball and
basketball during her youth. Dolores believed devoutly in Jesus Christ and
accepted Him as her personal Savior and LORD.
She met and married the love of her life, her devoted husband George A. Hinton,
Sr., who preceded her in death. Dolores and her husband enjoyed nearly 58 years
of marriage, and to this union four children were born. Throughout her husband’s
military service, Dolores remained a supportive military wife, and after nearly
20 years of military assignment relocations with her husband, Dolores and her
family settled in Detroit, Michigan.
Dolores was employed in the field of industrial textiles as an Industrial Seamstress
until her retirement. She expertly fabricated seatbelts and canvas tops for military
vehicles, as well as assembled tarps which covered huge mounts of salt, know as
“Salt Covers.”
She joined Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the
late Rev. Lessley Beard Jr., and she enjoyed attending worship services under the
leadership of Pastor Debirley Porter. Her favorite choir was the Male Chorus;
of which, her husband had been a member.
Dolores enjoyed sewing clothes for herself, watching old western movies,
watching tennis, and watching golf. Bingo was her favorite pastime; of which,
she was an avid player. She also enjoyed the time she would spend with her
youngest granddaughter, Tiffany Hinton, during their annual holiday visits.
When her health began to decline, her sister-in-law, Dorothy Gibbons
accompanied her to medical appointments and would assist with her care, as
well as her daughter, Winifred Hinton. Additionally, two of her granddaughters;
Tylar Hinton and Tiara Hinton, previously lived with her to assist.
Dolores was the matriarch of her family. She departed this life on Friday, July 8,
2022 at 6:43 pm, at the Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan, surrounded
by her family.
She leaves four children to cherish her memories, Juanita of Detroit, Michigan;
Winifred of Detroit, Michigan; Winfred of Winder, Georgia; and George Jr.
of Temple Hills, Maryland. Two daughter-in-laws; Rhonda (George Jr.), with
whom she enjoyed a relationship of more than 32 years, and Vanessa (Winfred).
She also leaves two sister-in-laws; Dorothy Gibbons and Alma Grant, and one
brother-in-law George Grant, one step-daughter, Roslyn Jones, and one stepgranddaughter,
Marta Brock, both of South Euclid, Ohio, seven grandchildren;
Devona Johnson (Deonte); Garrett, Sr. (Jessica), Laticia, Tylar, Tiara, Der’John,
and Tiffany; ten great-grand children, a host of nieces and nephews; to whom
she was affectionately known as “Auntie Dee”, family friend Chester Williams
(Winifred), and a host of other relatives, friends, and many Bingo friends.
