Catherine Clark's Obituary
Catherine Clark (known as Cat) was born February 8, 1926 in Americus,
Georgia
to the union of Deotis and Ethel Smith.
She moved to Chicago in the mid 40’s where she married Marine Samuel Clark. To
this union three children were born.
Catherine worked for many years in security at Goldblatt’s department store and
Provident Hospital.
She enjoyed the finer things in life and getting together with her “girls” to have
their weekly card games. She kept her mind sharp by playing word games such as
scrabble and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, shopping and most
of all COOKING! Even up in age she was an EXCELLENT cook.
Catherine was also known for the many years she spent fostering children. In 1997
she moved to Jackson, Michigan to be near her daughters where she remained until
her death. She departed from this life on October 13, 2021 at the age of 95. She
was preceded in death by both parents, six siblings, daughter; Doris L. Gaskin, and
daughter-in-law; Jamie Clark, and a great-granddaughter; Sh’rae Monique Hall.
She leaves behind one daughter; Janet E. Copeland (Eric), one son; Samuel
“Chucky” Clark Jr., nine grandchildren; Anissa Gaskin, Myron “Donnie” Gaskin
(Alicia Missy), Nicole Betts (Earl), Eric Copeland Jr. (Tia), Brandon Dante’
Copeland, Bryan K. Copeland, Natalie Copeland, Eboni Carson, and Brandi
Michelle Clark, twelve great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Two special “daughters” Katia Bell and Shauntaa Jones. Special “daughter/
friend” Dorothy Thompson. Close friends; Mattie Blackwell, Christine Johnson,
Coretta Sisson, Rosetta Thompson and several family and friends too many to
mention.
Among all these she was blessed to have a special granddaughter, Anissa, who
exemplified unconditional love.
