Bettie Jean Muray's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bettie J. Muray on October 22, 2024 at the age of 77. Bettie was born on September 23,1947 in Stello, Mississippi,to Henry and Remonia Lyons.
Bettie met the love of her life and beloved husband Robert L. Muray of 57 years.Bettie was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, and love and support for her family and community. Along with her husband, she was a devout member of Second Baptist Missionary Church in Jackson, Michigan.
Bettie graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education, and eventually obtained her Master’s plus 30. Her career in education spanned over forty plus years with Jackson Public Schools.
After retiring in 2012, she became active in various roles in the church and community; such as the “Sick and Shut in Corresponder” for Second Baptist Missionary Church, and the continuation of her 49 years of service as a sorority sister of Delta Kappa Gamma (Omicron).
Preceded in joining the Lord Mother and Father, Henry and Remonia Lyons and her husband Robert L. Muray.
Survived by; daughters Robyne C. Muray, Tamara L. Muray, and Andrea L. Muray; grandchildren Jasmine D.(Brandon) Finklea, Demanje (Lauren) Muray, and Nazir Smith; great grandchildren; Isaiah Muray, and Alexis Muray, brothers; Thedore Lyons, Reverend Tony (Ollie) Lyons, sisters; Mildred (John) Cox, Roma (Marvin) Thomas and Virginia Lyons.; beloved nieces, nephews and cousins;godson; Anthony Collins.
Heaven has gained an amazing and beautiful resident. May she rest in peace in the arms of Jesus.
Funeral Services are under the direction of The House of Johnson, 235 West Prospect Street, Jackson, Michigan. The visitation will be held Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 2-6 at The House of Johnson. The funeral service will take place Monday, November 4th, at 11:00 a.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 304 E. Prospect, Jackson, Michigan.
