Sherman Bicy, Jr.
May 28, 1933 - October 26, 2015
Sherman Bicy, Jr., was born to Sherman and Ida (Norris) Bicy on May 28, 1933 in Jackson, Michigan. Sherman, better known as “Junie” by his siblings and “Bicy” by his beloved wife Sue, graduated from Jackson High School where he was involved in practically every sport they had to offer: football, basketball, a fast pitcher in baseball, and he participated on the track and field team. He also participated in the amateur boxing Golden Gloves JAA tournament. Bicy served three years in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. He remained active in sports, adding golf and bowling to his list, up until he turned his life over to Christ during the early 70’s and became a devoted and faithful member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee, deacon, and passionate member of the Sunday-school board. Bicy was a recipient of the Christian Community Service Award, nominated for being a “true soldier of the Cross” in 1981 for courageously and generously sharing his testimony of deliverance from alcohol addiction through Christ Jesus. An article in the Jackson Community Afterglow stated “his witness as a true child of God touched so many lives, and there are many grateful souls in this community because of his faithful caring and visiting to the various sick and shut-ins in the homes, care facilities, and hospitals.” Sherm was an employee of Eaton Corporation dedicating over 51 years of service, during which time he received a perfect attendance award and was loved by all of his coworkers. He and his wife Sue together were faithful patrons of Ponderosa and Big Boy restaurants. Sherman, Jr. went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 26, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents; Sherman, Sr. and Ida; brothers Clarence (Amo) and Lynwood; sisters Phoebe, Maybelle, and Quincey; daughter Deborah; and grandsons Nicholas Bicy, Sr. and Rodney Johnson. Bicy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 58 years, Sue Jean; daughter Victoria (Michael) Bicy VanDerKar; brother Lawrence Bicy; sisters Josephine (Clint) Abrams, Ollie Hill, and Betty Jean Bicy-Joplin; grandchildren Tony Bicy, Nichelle (Kevin) Holmes, Deanna Bicy, Tamikio Mahoney, Omar Bicy, Deanna (Derick) Thomas, Andre Arnold, Robbin Johnson, Keith Arnold, Angela (Wayne) Lawrence, and Raeanna Torrey; 31 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; Godchildren Michelle Taylor and James (Peppie) Taylor; along with a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He will surely be missed by his family and all that knew and loved him. The Lord [is] my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still water. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23
