Sarah Eva Melson was born on March 12, 1932 in Greensboro, Alabama to the late Hattie Merritt and Price Stringer. Sarah lived with her family on the Merritt family farm until the age of ten; it was then that her family relocated to Detroit. Sarah's mother met and married Tommy Fields and together they raised Sarah and her brother Thomas (Flud). Sarah attended the Ferndale public schools and graduated from Lincoln High on January 25, 1951. While visiting her father at Herman Kiefer Tuberculosis Center, Sarah met Willie Lee Melson whom she married on August 29, 1953. To this union four sons were born, Bernard Allen, William Jerome, Darrell Kirk, (who preceded Sarah and Willie in death) and Darryl Andre. Sarah was a devoted wife and mother; She and Willie enjoyed 55 blissful years together. Sarah was employed with the state of Michigan in the mental health hospitals of Plymouth, Southgate and Northville. Sarah took her religious beliefs very seriously and was a faithful member of Wisconsin Avenue Church of God under the leadership of Pastor John Sapp and later Lighthouse Community Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Demetrius Booker. It was there that Sarah served on the nurses guild, which was her calling to help and assist people in need. Sarah's favorite gospel song was "Somebody bigger than you and I" and her favorite scripture was Psalm 23. On January 26, 2016, God called Sarah home to be with him, her work was done. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sons; Michael Anthony, Bernard Allen, William Jerome (Evette), Darryl Andre; a faithful and devoted niece, Donna Prince; a brother, Joseph Stringer; three loving sister's-in-law, Claudette, Lovie and Mattie; a loving and devoted friend, Lottie Davis; eight grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
