Nellie France Spence was born on March 6, 1930 to the late Eva Clemons and Willis Smith in Marianna, Florida. Nellie had one sister; Willie A. Williams. At an early age, Nellie dedicated her life to the Lord at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the youth choir and attended Sunday school. While living in Florida, Nellie attended the Apalachicola Public Schools. In 1957, Nellie moved to Jackson, Michigan where she attended Second Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Amos Polk Williams. She sang in the Senior Choir, was a member of the Usher Board and was in the Nurse’s Guild. Along with the Lord, Nellie also loved her late husband; Eulice Z. Spence to whom she was married to for 47 years. Nellie was a loving person who loved people and bowling. She was inducted into the bowling Hall of Fame. She always had a smile on her face and a piece of candy for everyone who needed it and a smile. Nellie was preceded in passing by her parents and late husband. Nellie will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Offering thanks for Nellie’s life are her sister; Willie A. Williams, adopted son; Terry Spence, godchild; Latesha Campbell, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nephews, three special friends; (adopted sisters) Ethel Lou Moss, Margie Thomas, and Rether McCaskill, and her many special church and bowling friends; Terry Meeks, Elvis Joplin, Annie Mcgurie, Fay Ingram, John and Jim. Thanks to all who played a special part in Mrs. Spence life.
