Mother Evangelist Melva “Lois” (Davis) Cawthon passed on Monday, December 14, 2015. She was born to Theo and Annie (Wood) Davis in Alma, Georgia on January 11, 1947. Her family moved north to Albion, Michigan when she was just five years old. She married L.V. Cawthon, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by both her parents; three siblings James L. Davis, Annie P. Parker, and Joe Davis. Lois graduated from Washington Gardner High School in 1965 and moved to Jackson that same year. She was employed at TRW (former Kelsey-Hayes) from 1968 –until she retired in 2006. She received two certificates from Jackson Community College in 1982, for Data Entry and Bookkeeping. She gave her life to Christ at a young age and began teaching Sunday school at the age of fourteen. She served as Evangelist, member of the Mother’s Board, Sunday school teacher, and Prayer and Bible Band teacher at First Evangelistic Church of God in Christ, in Jackson, Michigan. She was also a devoted member of the First Evangelistic Food Pantry Ministry. Lois is survived by four children: three daughters; Vicki (Michael) Richardson, and Nichelle (Michael) Williams, both of Jackson, and Rewa Cawthon, of Cincinnati, Ohio, one son; Jasen Cawthon, also of Jackson. nine grandchildren; Candice (Lamar) Robinson, Megan Cawthon, Wesley Cawthon, Jasen Cawthon II, Micah Cawthon, Myklin Richardson, Malik Richardson, Zhanya Walker, and Jabien Cawthon, three great-grandchildren; Kennedii Robinson, Kassaun Robinson, and Andrea Cawthon, three brothers; Leo (Ruth) Davis, of Albion, Larry Davis, of Grand Rapids, and Walker Lee Davis, of Albion, three sisters: Lema Nell Smith, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Bobbie (Andrew) Hamilton, of Albion, Michigan; and Doris (Arthur) Jackson, of Battle Creek, Michigan, one uncle; Leanes Wood, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
