March 21, 1919 - April 19, 2017
I, Lugenia (Luttie) Dawkins was born to Augustus and Carrie Swanson on March 21, 1919 in Roba, Alabama. Confessing my life to Christ at an early age, my Christian and Educational endeavors began in my hometown of Roba, Alabama. I married my husband, Ted Dawkins, in 1940 and had four lovely girls; Minnie, Linnie, Betty, Emma, and one step-daughter; Annie and I raised three grands; Jimmy, Regina, and Lorrine as my own. In 1956 I followed my passion for success and moved to Detroit, Michigan. There I secured employment with Dr. Goddard and Harper Hospital in housekeeping for many years until I retired in 1982. I believed in always being on time! In 1961 I became a member of Burns Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church. I moved back to Tuskegee, Alabama to live with my mother and stayed over twenty years. I transferred my membership to Tuskegee Seventh Day Adventist Church, still serving the Lord. In 2002, I returned back to Detroit, Michigan and became a member of Conant Gardens Seventh Day Adventist Church. I always served as an usher in the church, and the children and young people knew that I did not believe in all of that walking and talking during the church services; all I had to do was just look at them, and they knew what time it was, and to stay seated. You know, I never met a stranger! I loved my church, going to Sabbath School, reading my bible, music, dancing, cooking, and taking my grandkids to church and to Belle Isle. When going to school, I kept the teachers and principal laughing; I enjoyed telling jokes to keep people laughing. The year 1949, I took ill and almost left this world, but the good Lord was not ready for me and gave me life for sixty-eight more years for a total of ninety-eight years. In 2005, my mind started failing me and I had to check into, “The Nursing Home Hotel” (LOL). I leave to cherish my memory my daughters; Minnie (Thomas, Sr.) Perry, Linnie and Annie, all of Alabama, Betty (Carl) Robinson, and Emma (Robert, Deceased) Brown, both of Detroit, Michigan, my loving sisters; Enneree, of Alabama, who is one hundred and one years old, Florine, who is ninety-two years old and Verlia (Albert) Harris, who is eighty-six years old, both of Cleveland, Ohio. I also leave a legacy of thirty-two grandchildren, sixty-two great-great grandchildren, ninety-three great-great-great grandchildren, 33 great-great-great-great grandchildren, and one greatgreat- great-great-great grandchildren. Now I’m going to join my father and mother, my brother; Augustus, Jr., my sisters; Doth, Ada, Georgia, Corine, Julia, Carrie, and Catherine. To all of my grands, nieces, nephews, family, and Honey; I, Lugenia Dawkins (The Old Fox) loved all of you very much and do not forget that, do you hear me!! I want to say to all, lets get it together so we can meet again, in the second coming of Jesus Christ. I’m getting tired and must sleep now, but the work I did shows the life I lived.
