On January 1st 2016, God chose to take our Angel Katie who went to be with the Lord. Katie Ruth Galloway was born on September 2nd 1929 to Josie and Luke Galloway in Jonestown, Mississippi. Katie graduated from Coahoma County Agricultural High School in 1950. Katie moved to Jackson, Michigan in the early 1950’s to stay with her favorite cousin Willie Mae Journey “Billie”. Katie then met and married Elijah Backstrom who were happily married for over 38 years. Katie was preceded in death by Elijah (Husband), Brenda Faye (Daughter), Chester Galloway, Betty Galloway and Maggie Galloway (Siblings) Katie was employed by Hayes Hotel, then Felters Company where she retired from in 1984. Katie was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grand and Great-Grandmother to her family. Katie loved singing and was an active member of the choir and various other organizations within the church where she was a long standing member for over 55 years of Community A.M.E. She loved traveling, baking and was famous for her “Lemon Jello Cake”. Katie loved spending time with her family and friends. Our Katie leaves to cherish her memory: Lois Jean Coppage, Jackson MI (sister) her children, Debra Felicia Glover, Atlanta, GA, Tonya Marie Hill, Jackson, MI and Elijah Eugene (Celeste) Backstrom, Jackson, MI. Grand daughters, Lacresha Danielle, Tiffany Nicole Cain (Ronald), Tiara Monique, Terriana Tanae and Taylor Alajah. 2 Great-grandchildren, Brielle Marie and Coy Robert. Many loving nieces and nephews. Special friends to Katie are Marian Taylor, Pauline Stokes, Margie Carpenter and Doris Ross. Special Son, Raymond Davis.
