James Edward Thornton was born March 7, 1942 in Port Gibson, Mississippi and died February 19, 2017 peacefully in his sleep, with his children by his side in Jackson Michigan. James was preceded in death by his wife; Rose Thornton, parents; Lucille Mays and Reginald Thornton. James was a son, brother, uncle, husband, father and grandfather. James did many things in his life that made his family proud. He served in the Army, received his GED and completed courses that interested him at Jackson College. He is well known in the community, not only for his unforgettable personality and smile, but also for working at the fuel stations in the Jackson and Michigan Center areas. James was a good man who loved his family more than anything, even his animals. He took great care of those in his life, whether they were family or friends. James made a good impression on anyone that met him, and he had a smile that could light up a whole room! He was a man that you could not help but love. James is survived by his loving children; Joshua Thornton, Kristina Gammon and Annie Johnson-Thornton, his siblings; Josephine Thornton, Tony Mays, Norman Mays and Thomas Mays, grandchildren; Legacy and Gabrielle. He is also loved and survived by a host of other family, friends, and loved ones. Although he is gone, he will be in our hearts forever and looking over us from the stars above.
