Damon Burton

Damon Lamar Burton was born on April 18th, 1969 to Sharon Williams and Thurston Burton in Detroit, Michigan. He departed this life on March 31st, 2020. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers; Alma Mitchell and Kathleen Mae Davis-Littlejohn. Damon, known to many as “De De Damon” or “Burton”, played little league football and basketball in Detroit at Johnson’s recreation center. He came to Jackson in 1985 for his 10th grade year and attended Jackson High School until graduation in 1987. He was very well liked by everyone and instantly made friends. In his early years he was a member of The Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Frank Hampton, Jr. During high school Damon worked for Bob Evans restaurant, after graduation he took criminal justice classes at JCC and was hired into the Michigan Department of Corrections in 1990, at the age of 21. He was set to retire on April 1st, 2020 after thirty-one years of service for the MDOC. Damon was known for entertaining, and was always able to make people laugh. He also enjoyed traveling, entertaining and cooking. He leaves to cherish one son; Anthony Burton of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, two daughters; Danisha Latreece Burton and Diaja Monae Edwards, both of Jackson Michigan, one granddaughter; Kayonna Michelle Williams, one stepsister; Trina Burton, and one nephew; Anthony Johnson of Detroit Michigan. He also leaves his very special friends; Brian Allen and Kirk, as well as a host of cousins and other family members. He was a father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and a friend to so many and he will be missed tremendously.
