Charley Edward Hurd
March 3, 1939 - October 13, 2017
Charley Edward Hurd, was born March 3, 1939 to Clinton Hurd Sr., and Virgalee (McNish) Hurd in Jackson, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Mona Hurd, his brothers Clinton Jr, Jimmie, and Johnny Hurd, his sisters Ola (Hurd) Garrison and Oree (Hurd) Bradshaw. Charley or “Curls” as he was lovingly called by his siblings, has now made his transition to his heavenly home. Charley attended Jackson High School where he sang in the school choir and also played Baritone in the band. At the age of 18, when Charley was still in high school he decided to enlist into the United States Air Force where he remained for two years. While there he also found time to play Baritone in their band. Upon completing his time in the Air Force, Charley became a garbage man and worked with Sylvanus Jones until he obtained a job at Clark Equipment. Later on, feeling the need to make a change, he decided to move to Lansing, Michigan where he worked at Oldsmobile until he found what he called the best job he ever had. Truck driving became his dream job. He could be his own boss! This became his passion. He even took his son Lamont as a little boy on the road with him, teaching him to shift gears. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons Anthony and Christopher “Lamont”, his grandchildren, his sisters Mary Dunlap, Ethel Clark, Florence Paschall, and Norma (Thomas Sr.) Clemons, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
